First

Web // Publication

During their first year at SAIC, students are encouraged to break out
of their comfort zone and the confines of their practice to embrace the multidisciplinary nature of the curriculum. The First Catalogue is an annual showcase of these explorations, featuring one work from every first year student at the school.

Pushing against boundaries

This concept for the 2018 First Publication takes the idea of rejecting confines and applies it to the context of the page. All content is pushed against the boundaries of the publication, riskily butting the edges as opposed to sitting comfortably at the center. Folios are cropped to further play with the notion of breaking boundaries.

Web

The format was then translated digitally to allow access to the public as the physical publications are reserved for the students featured. Again, the middle is left bare while the student works are showcased at the edges of the browser. The page title is cut, alluding that there may be something beyond that border to investigate.
